Seventh International Transmission Symposium - A Retrospect

05. February 2009

From December 1 to 5 international transmission experts joined themselves on the seventh International Transmission Symposium "Innovative Automotive Transmissions" in Berlin. Roughly 1,000 experts from Europe, Asia and USA discussed trend-setting drive concepts and future energy source for motor vehicles. About 90 companies presented newest developments at the accompanying exhibition "Transmission Expo".

The themes load collectives and test cycles were in the centre of this years' GIF booth. Sven Steinwascher, team leader transmission application and hybrids, lectured about "Optimized load cycle development for double clutch transmissions". With a method, developed by GIF, endurance tests for existing and new transmissions can be generated. The method enables not only the examination of the complete transmission system but also the analysis of several components like the double clutch. Additionally to this analysis prognoses of the loads for planned applications with different motor and vehicle, alternatives can be predicted via comprehensive simulation models. Consequently GIF has the possibility to predict loads of powertrain components, transmission applications or entire transmission families.

On the booth the generating of load cycles was illustrated by the model of a slot car racing track. Interested people had the possibility to find out their driver type. The specific driver types were characterised via different operation modes (e.g. racy, economic), road utilisations (city, interurban, highway), distance profiles (flat, hilly, alpine) and load cases (payload, trailer operation) according to the allocation.
